Nine Nights Of Durga – A Revival Of Self

“The eternal and infinite consciousness is I,
It is my greatness dwelling in everything.”

— Devi Sukta, Rigveda 10.125.3 – 10.125.8

Honouring all that is divine and metaphysical; a doctrine of energy and power is the eternal Goddess Durga. The metaphysical reality was considered metaphorically a woman; who imbibes the innocence of a child and is a slayer of demons, the creator of life itself, and a selfless mother, a warrior who is both beautiful and fierce. A woman is to be celebrated everyday for she is worth it.

Chaitra Navratri (2nd April – 11th April 2022) starts as per Hindu Lunar calendar in the month of Chaitra (March/April) also known as Basant Navratri. It is the longest and perhaps the most important festivals of Hindus with religious traditions and significance attached to it. (https://valueteam.com.sg/) Devotees invoke Goddess Durga and her various metamorphoses for happiness, prosperity, protection, victory and forgiveness- while they dedicate their nine-night celebrations observing fasts for consecutive days praying.

Chaitra Navratri’s ancient alias Navdurga simply translates to nine-avtaras that “Supreme Durga” manifested during the nine-day duration war with the demon king Mahishasura to which she emerged victorious on the tenth day.

A tradition of wearing colour dedicated to each day is in vogue in certain parts of the country. Women observing fasts and wearing clothes allotted for the day during Navratri is considered auspicious.
